Corn Starch and Modified Starch

CORN STARCH

Corn starches are some of the most versatile, flexible and essential ingredients.

They deliver several benefits when used in food and beverage formulations — including thickening and binding, freeze and thaw stability, and reduced costs among others.

Corn starches are also important ingredients in papermaking and in the pharmaceutical industry.

MODIFIED STARCH

In order to improve the performance of starch and expand its application scope, physical, chemical or enzymatic treatment is used to introduce new functionalities. The kind of starch that has undergone secondary processing and changed its properties is collectively referred to as modified starch.

They are used in the food industry as a stabilizer, thickener, water retaining agent, adhesive, and resistant to mechanical processing.

Outside the food industry, it is a very popular ingredient in the paper industry, where it is used to improve the physical properties of paper.
